steering rack oil / gaiters

Hello,

I currently have the subframe out from my firenza and i'm needing to change the rack gaiters, my only question is how do you top the rack up with oil after changing the gaiters? the manual mentions with the rack removed, to hold one end up and fill it that way, which i'm not too bothered about doing, but i also need to do the same with my GT which everything is in situe, but it made me think that it can't be the only way to fill them up surely... as removing the rack is a whole lot of hassle just for oil and gaiters. That's where i was thinking of refilling the oil through the upper bolted plate/cover.

Regards
James

The only way I've read of doing it is as you say - remove the rack and hold it on end. It does make a point of not over-filling the rack. I can't think how you'd get the oil in any other way, perhaps a syringe into the top of one of the gaiters. I think I'd prefer to undo the five bolts (on HC at least) and just do it on the bench.

Its much easier to use an oil can and stick the tip in the top of the boot inner and pump in the required amount you need, bobs your uncle :D

I'll tip the firenza rack up on one end and fill it with a 1/4 pint of oil and with the GT i'll get the oil can out and jack the car on one side as high as i can, so the oil runs down the rack :D
