rear wheel cylinders

I've just noticed that the rear wheel cylinders on my 72 HC are different sizes on the cast block (the mounting face) and one has slots in the piston ends and one has flat ends on the pistons, i.e they are different to each other. Is this correct and if so why? They are Lockheed with manual adjusters, and I believe the Moprod numbers are MWC143 and MWC144

On the HB front with drum brakes, you can have either slot or smooth so it may be the same with your rears

On manual adjust I believe you can have either but are normally flat - the ones with the slot in have to used if you have auto adjust system. The numbers you quote are correct and the Club Spares has them or equivalent.

Hi Marcus....... The flat top piston type was only used on the manual adjusting rear brakes. The type with the slot in the piston top was for the later self adjusting brakes, the slot supposed to hold onto the shoes for the self adjusting system to work correctly. The piston internal bores were a teeny weenie tad different between the two in size and depth.
Flat top type for manual adjusters were Moprod number MWC 143 & 144. And the self adjusting slot type were MWC145 & 146. The "145" is a rare cylinder and very difficult to find. (I have quite a few "146" s in stock) That could be the reason why you have found a odd pair fitted? Adrian
